Hellooo UMAC faithful! Just posting yet another update on the progress that the UMAC Officers are making during this summer offseason. We have finally crossed the hump of July and are busily preparing to ring in the new school year at the end of August.
In the coming weeks, expect a meeting schedule to be released, with a loose agenda of our meeting plans and field trip dates for the Fall 2014 semester. Another very important announcement is the official selection of the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois for our major field trip over Fall Break in October. We are currently finalizing hotel and flight arrangements, so more updates will follow, but it is exciting to know exactly where the club will be going.
For those of you that have been following UMAC over the summer, you may have noticed a few website additions, including the UMAC Forum. Created to foster discussion/showmanship between members, please feel free to log on via Facebook and start a thread or comment on a pre-existing one. If you have a personal aquarium, don't be shy to make a post about it to allow others to view your tanks!
Last but not least, it's time for another round of updates on the renovation of the Cox 184 Aquarium, which has now moved on to the plumbing phase. Last week was spent acquiring supplies and equipment, and now glass baffles have been installed to both the 55-gallon refugium and 20-gallon underneath sump. Additional ball and check valves were plumbed into the return pump lines, and will be glued and installed next week. For more pictures and details, check out the build thread in the UMAC Forum (http://umaquariumclub.weebly.com/umac-forum.html#/).
Expect another blog post later this week, as it's now mangrove seedling season in South Florida...
