Hello everyone! Just posting some updates on the aquarium projects going on this summer over in Cox 184's Marine Science Lab, and releasing a few potentially exciting details for projects continuing into the Fall semester. The renovation has been going well, especially since the focus shifted from starting "new construction" to simply reorganizing and categorizing our existing space. Some interesting facts came out of the reshuffle, in case you didn't know...
- UMAC currently has 27 aquariums in the MSC Lab, totaling over 574 gallons of water. 9 of those tanks are 10-gallon aquariums available for rental during the Fall!
- UMAC is now currently caring for 2 Oscellaris Clownfish, as well as a Long Tentacle Anemone the pair host within.
- The plans for the new aquarium rack to be built in July will also house a Live Feeds Area for members to culture phytoplankton, rotifers, and brine shrimp.
- The backs of the 90-gallon Main Display, Refugium, and Clownfish Aquariums have all been painted black for a cleaner, slicker look!
The future for the work in the lab will revolve around preparing the space and equipment for a busy Fall Semester, so that UMAC has as many resources and learning opportunities available to bring to members becoming involved. We want to also develop some more in-depth projects (possibly a coral propagation system) so that we can better bring an immersive aquarium experience to everyone in the club. A few more pictures from the lab, and some of our clownfish pair are included below!
Enjoy your summer everyone, and reach out to the club at [email protected] if there are any ideas you'd like to share with us!
